John Wayne Hicks

Mr. John Wayne Hicks, Sr., 73, of 1401 Park Drive, Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. He was born June 13, 1936, in Surry County, to Viola Haynes Hicks and the late Robert Thomas Hicks. He was the former owner and operator of Surry Hosiery and a member of Highland Park Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Julie Ann Gwyn Hicks of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Theresa and Charles Danley and Amanda Hicks, all of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, John Wayne Hicks, Jr. and Heather of Mount Airy; six grandchildren; his mother, Viola Haynes Hicks of Lambsburg, VA; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Rogene "Janice" Hicks of Mount Airy and Linda Faye and Jim Gray of Lambsburg, VA; and a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Gayla Hicks of St. Petersburg, FL. The funeral service will be held Thursday, October 29, 2009, at 11:00 AM at Highland Park Baptist Church, with the Rev. Darrell Tate officiating. Burial will follow in the Zion Hill Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the old sanctuary of Highland Park Baptist Church.
