John Cecil Hodges

Mr. John Cecil Hodges, 78, of 127 Highland Avenue, Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2007, at Hoots Memorial Hospital in Yadkinville. Mr. Hodges was born March 28, 1928, in Surry County, to the late John W. and Maude Bryant Hodges. He served our country in the United States Navy and was a retired purser from the Military Sealift Command. Mr. Hodges was a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lummie Mae Wilson Hodges of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Bettie and Moody Keith of Mount Airy; two grandchildren and spouses, Alesia and Ronnie Brady and Daniel and Joni Keith, all of Mount Airy; three great grandchildren, Caitlin Bobbitt, Addison Brady, and Emily Keith, all of Mount Airy; and a sister and brother-in-law, Madeline and Richard Young of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hodges was preceded in death by six brothers, Bobby Hodges, Ralph Hodges, Wayne Hodges, Moyer Hodges, Eugene Hodges, and Jimmy Hodges. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 27, 2007, at 2:00 PM at Mount Carmel Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by Dr. James Joseph and the Rev. Danny Culler. Burial will follow in the Mount Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery, with full military rites conducted by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mount Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends Monday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Mount Carmel Baptist Church, 123 Mount Carmel Church Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
