John C. Holyfield

Mr. John C. Holyfield, age 97, of Dobson passed away on Sunday evening October 26, 2008 at his home. He was born in Surry County on September 18, 1911 to the late Lacy and Florence Cave Holyfield. He was a Elder, Deacon and member of Welcome View Baptist Church, he was a retired farmer. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Eula Cave Holyfield, a son R.J. Holyfield, a great granddaughter Alyssa Matthews, by a sister Cassie Freeman, by two brothers Floyd and Jim Holyfield, by a son-in-law Leonard Payne. Surviving is a daughter Mrs. Gladiona Holyfield Payne of Elkin; a son and daughter-in-law Don and Teresa Holyfield of Surf Side Beach, SC; by eight grandchildren Michael Payne, Mildred Burton,
Audrey Sink, Ricky Holyfield, Reba White, Deborah Pendergrass, Chris Matthews and Tina Woodlief; by three step grandchildren Diane Lawson, Cristina Lawson and Nicole Lawson; by nine great grandchildren; by seven great-great grandchildren; one sister Odessa Shores Thurmond; Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday October 29, 2008 at Welcome View Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Church Cemetery. Rev. Marty Reece, Rev. Tony White and Rev. Jimmy Tucker will conduct the services. His body will remain at Moody-Davis Funeral Home until carried to the church to lie in state 30 min. before the services. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 7 PM until 9 PM at Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson. The family would like to give a special thanks to Kathy Ridenhour, Rita Osborne, Rosa Ramiraz, Debbie Cook, Teresa Patton, Glenda Hanks, Sue White, Kacey Easter, Debra Sexton, Cathy Shinault and LeAnn Beck for the love and care given to their father.
