Mr. John Allen Jarvis, age 36 of Mt. Airy died on Saturday April 7, 2007 after years of declining health at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem. He was born in Surry County on August 4, 1970 to Sharon Oakley Jarvis and to the late Steve Smith Jarvis. He was a graduate of Surry Central High School where he was a All State Wrestler for three years, and attended Wilkes Community College on a full Wrestling Scholarship. After his swimming accident in 1991 he attended St. Andrews University for two years.
Surviving are his mother Sharon Oakley Jarvis of Elkin; three sisters and brother-in-law Kimberly Hull of Mt. Airy, Sandra Fletcher of Dobson, Stephanie and Mark Goings of Dobson; one brother James (Jim) Jarvis of Dobson; six nieces Sheena Jarvis, Lauryn Hull, Serina Jarvis, Mykinna Jarvis, Ailee Goings, and Gracie Goings; eight nephews Derrick Atkins, Darren Atkins, Travis Fletcher, Steve (Bo) Jarvis, Jes Smith, Cameron Smith, Aaron Jarvis, and Zeb Jarvis; and a special friend Mark Payne. In addition to his father one brother Steve Smith Jarvis Jr preceded him in death. Funeral Services will he held 2:00 PM Tuesday at Moody-Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Dobson with Blain Oakley conducting the service. The family will receive friends on Monday evening at Moody-Davis Funeral Home from 7 until 9 PM and at other times at the home of his Mother at 524 Kapps Mill Rd. Elkin, NC. The family would like to thank the staff at Colonial Care for the love and kindness shown to John during his stay there.
