John Harvey Jones

Mr. John Harvey Jones, 90, of 340 Dudley Avenue, Mount Airy, passed away Friday, May 21, 2010, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Jones was born February 19, 1920, in Surry County, son of the late George Pete and Leona Mae Blackburn Jones. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy during World War II. John retired from R.J. Reynolds after many years of service and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Wilma Lee Tolbert Jones of the home; two sons, Steve Jones of Middleton, WI, and Harvey Jones of Jacksonville, FL; four grandchildren, Laura Lee of Middleton, WI, Lynn Peters of Media, PA, Brad Jones of Charlotte, and Michelle Jones of Jacksonville, FL; six great-grandchildren, Eric Bargaehr, Austin Peters, Franklin Peters, Bennett Jones, Evelyn Peters, and Reid Jones; and a brother, Jack Jones of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Jones was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Beeson and Josephine Kirkman; and a brother, Paul Jones. A graveside service will be held Monday, May 24, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Oakdale Cemetery, with the Rev. David Burgess officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 12:30 to 1:30 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
