John Wesley Key

Mr. John Wesley Key, 85, of Pilot Mountain, passed away Monday, November 1, 2010, in Albany, GA. Mr. Key was born May 9, 1925, in Surry County, to John Gabriel and Ida Mae Boyles Key. He served our country in the United States Navy and retired from the North Carolina Granite Corporation. He was a member of Simmons Grove Baptist Church, where he also served as deacon. Mr. Key is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and Fred Schuermann of High Point, Donette and Larry Brown of Pilot Mountain, and Velna and Henry Allen of Conway, SC; a son, Darrell Key of Durham; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four sisters and a brother-in-law, Eva Armstrong of Pilot Mountain, Verla Peele of Mount Airy, Ruth and Louie Stack of Albany, GA, and Betty Linthicum of Sophia; and a sister-in-law, Geneva Key of Pilot Mountain. In addition to his parents, Mr. Key was preceded in death by his wife, Mallie Mozelle Inman Key; three sisters, Myrtle Peele, Sadie Harris, and Annie Lou Key; and three brothers, the Rev. Paul Key, Sam Key, and Frank Key. The funeral service will be held Thursday, November 4, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Simmons Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jeff Stephens, the Rev. Stewart Mauck, and the REv. Johnson Gupton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:30 until 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service.
