John Lester Smith

Mr. John Lester Smith, 75, of State Road, passed away Sunday morning, December 22, 2024, at Davie Medical Center in Bermuda Run. Mr. Smith was born June 22, 1949, in Patrick County, VA, the son of the late John Moir and Annie Ruth Culler Smith. John was a faithful servant of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He retired from The City of High Point and then moved to Wilkes County, where he enjoyed gardening and cultivating a beautiful and welcoming yard. Mr. Smith is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Lena Mae Vaughan Smith; two daughters, Vicky Mae Gallimore and Juanita Lee; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a sister, Janet Barnes; three nieces, Ann Stanley, Amanda Holyfield, and Annette Montgomery; and two nephews, Roger Hiatt and Terry Smith. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by two sons, Ricky Ray Gallimore and Gary Dean Gallimore; three brothers, Lance Smith, Delmar Smith, and North Smith; and a special nephew, Scotty Hiatt. A graveside service will be held on Christmas Eve, Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Culler Family Cemetery, with the Rev. Steve Stoltzfus officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 9:30 until 10:30 AM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
