Mr. John Wells Marshall, Sr., 85, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday night, January 28, 2018, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Marshall was born August 12, 1932, in Surry County, the only child born to the late Leonard and Virginia Wheeling Marshall. John served our country in the United States Army for two years during the Korean Conflict. He later worked for the United States Postal Service, retiring after 38 years of service. John was a dedicated Christian, a member of Grace Moravian Church, and a faithful part of the John Walker Sunday School Class. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Alleen Fulk Marshall of the home; two sons, John Wells Marshall, Jr. of the home and Bradley S. Marshall of Winston-Salem; a grandson, Aaron Gray Marshall of Winston-Salem; two special cousins, Roy Thomas and Eleanor Atkins, both of Mount Airy; and many, extended family members from Alleen’s family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Marshall was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ramie and Agnes Fulk Fulk. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at 1:00 PM at God’s Acre, with the Rev. Dr. Neil Routh officiating. No formal visitation will be held at the funeral home or church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Youth Food Drive, c/o Grace Moravian Church, 1401 North Main Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
