John McHone

Mr. John McHone, 78, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2008, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. McHone was born September 22, 1930, in Surry County, to the late John Layrus "Bud" and Alice Victoria Smith McHone. John retired from the Surry County sanitation department and was a member of the Baptist faith. He is survived by his wife, Eloise Tolbert McHone of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Gray Phillips and Rhonda and Ronald Brinkley, all of Mount Airy, and Barbara and Ronald Sechrist of Star; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Ellen Childress and Larry and Barbara Childress, all of Mount Airy; twelve grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. McHone was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Beverly and Margie Dollyhigh; and a brother, Claude McHone. The funeral service will be held Friday, September 26, 2008, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Jimmy Slate and the Rev. Dale Pack, and burial will follow in The Peoples Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
