John C. Shackelford

Mr. John C. “J.C.” Shackelford, 82, of Dobson, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday morning, July 23, 2017, from the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. Mr. Shackelford was born January 22, 1935, in Surry County, one of three children born to the late Vance Lafayette “Fate” and Naomi Ruth Johnson Shackelford. J.C. proudly served our country in the United States Army in the late 1950s. He retired from Cross Creek Apparel after 27 years of service and was a faithful member of Laurel Springs Baptist Church. J.C. had a special love for his church and church family. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carol Ann Wood Shackelford of the home; a brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Larry and Judy Wood of Clemmons and Kathy Wood of Denver, CO; a special niece and her husband, Kim and Randy Bullins of Westfield; several nieces and nephews, Brad and Susan Wood, and Ronnie, Kathy, Shane, and Vance Shackelford; his adopted grandchildren, Dalton Wood and Callie Wood; and special friends, Henry and LuAnn Edwards, Tony and Debbie Cave, and Luke and Ruth Oakley, all of Mount Airy, and Phillip and Jane Cave of Dobson. In addition to his parents, Mr. Shackelford was preceded in death by a sister, Maggie "Honey Mae" Nunn; and a brother, James Vance “Buddy” Shackelford, Sr. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Brian Pack and the Rev. Blaine Oakley officiating. Burial will follow in the Flat Top Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
