John Wayne Slate, Sr.

“A Human Being” left this earth on February 20, 2019 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home.  He was born in Savannah, GA, on October 18, 1944 to the late Roy and Hazel Slate.  During his lifetime, John traveled and lived all over the United States.  He was an entrepreneur of the “Flea Market,” where he made a lot of friends.  John was also an avid artist, leather smith and hunter.  He is survived by his children, John Wayne Slate, Jr., Stacey Ann Kirchner (Jeff), Shane Slate (Tracey) and Roy Slate; five grandchildren, Jack Thomas Slate, Riley June Slate, Melissa Jung, Justin Travis Jung, and Jean Pierre Slate; two sisters, Sandy Sutherland (Carroll) and Jilene Leftwich (Jason); his lifetime girlfriend and soul mate, Patsy Atkins and his fur baby, Raine.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Slate and sister, Robyn Higgins.  A private memorial service will be held at a later date to celebrate John’s life.  The family would like to say thank you to the staff at the Hospice Home for all their loving care and kindness.
