John Henry Smith

Mr. John Henry Smith, 67, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday morning, October 29, 2019, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.  Mr. Smith was born September 19, 1952, in Surry County, one of seven children born to the late Joseph Columbus “Joe” and Ida Vivian Joyce Smith.  John Henry was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who will be sorely missed by all who knew him.  He is survived by his wife, Patricia Kay Jackson Smith; a daughter, Patricia Mae Smith; four sons, David Lee Smith, James Travis Smith, David Ray Smith, and Joseph Howard Smith; a grandchild, Matthew Samuel Childress; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Joyce and Clint Harris and Wanda Gail Smith; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Joseph Lee and Carol Smith and Jerry Wayne Smith; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a son, Charles Samuel Childress; and two brothers, Jackie Ray Smith and Roger Dale Smith.  The funeral service will be held Thursday, October 31, 2019, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Kyle R. Caudle officiating.  Burial will follow in the Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
