John Carl Spurlin, Jr.

Mr. John Carl Spurlin, Jr. age 80, of Mount Airy passed away on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at his home. Mr. Spurlin was born on November 25, 1940 in Grayson County, Virginia to the late John Carl Spurlin, Sr. and Gladys Hiatt Spurlin. A long-time resident of Mount Airy, Mr. Spurlin retired from R.J. Reynolds and was a dedicated member of Highland Park Baptist Church. John had a wonderful voice and greatly enjoyed singing. He filled many positions in the church over the years and was a dedicated member of the choir. He was always an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt. John was always ready to travel and took many trips with his family, which greatly enriched not only his life, but the lives of his family. He will be remembered as a kind and caring man, wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather and husband, as well as a good friend and neighbor. He is now at peace and celebrating in heaven. Left to cherish his memories are his daughter Kini Snow and Jim Macon; two sons and daughters-in-law, Corey and Fran Spurlin; Brandon and Sherri Spurlin; five grandchildren, Caleb and Laura Spurlin, Brittany and Josh Hawks, Cody and Alicia Spurlin, Ethan Edwards and Mally Snow; six great-grandchildren, Kali and Maggie Hawks; Caroline and Sawyer Spurlin, Josie and Joseph Spurlin; many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins; along with his beloved Parker Family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Spurlin was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Marie Parker Spurlin. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 11, 2021 at Highland Park Baptist Church at 2:00 PM with Dr. Darrell Tate officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on October 11, 2021 at Highland Park Baptist Church from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, Mr. Spurlin and family wish to encourage donations to Highland Park Baptist Church Building Fund, 1327 Grove Lane, Mount Airy, North Carolina 27030.
