John Varley Willis, Jr

       Mr. John Varley Willis, Jr “J.V.” age 80 of Roanoke, Virginia passed away on July 14, 2018, at Avante Nursing Home in Roanoke.  He was born in Floyd County on June 11, 1938, to the late John Varley Willis and Sylvia Sutphin Willis.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Delphine Goode Willis; and an infant brother, Nelson Willis.  Mr. Willis had attended Jack’s Creek Primitive Baptist Church (Woolwine, VA) and Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church (Roanoke, VA).  He had received a degree in electrical engineering from Cleveland Technical School and retired from General Electric (Salem, VA).  J.V. received numerous awards and accolades during his forty year tenure at GE.  The family would like to thank the staff at Avante Nursing Home in Roanoke and the hospice providers with MSA Corporation.

         Mr. Willis is survived by three sisters, Gueindoline Hall and husband, Wayne of Roanoke, Velda Willis of Roanoke, and Mavis Newman of Daleville; two brothers, Carlin Willis and wife, Madeline of Lynchburg and Coleon Willis and wife, Gail of Fayetteville, North Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews.

         Funeral services for Mr. Willis will be held on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at 2:00 on at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Elder Dolph Painter and Elder David Komoda officiating.  Burial will immediately follow in Jack’s Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home Wednesday afternoon.  In lieu of flowers the family request memorial donations to Jack’s Creek Primitive Baptist Church, c/o Linda Midkiff, 393 Apple Tree Drive, Stuart, VA  24171 or to MT.
