Johnie Wayne Draughn

Mr. Johnie Wayne Draughn, age 79, of Mt. Airy, passed away Wednesday January 30, 2019, at his home surrounded by his loving family.  Mr. Draughn was born in Surry County on February 3, 1939, to Johnie and Lizzie Gammons Draughn.  He proudly served our country in the United States Army, retired from Western Southern Life and also worked at RidgeCrest Retirement for 15 years.  Mr. Draughn was a faithful member of Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church where he played bass guitar for 40 years.  Surviving is his devoted wife, Norma Nunn Draughn; daughters and sons-in-law, Kristi and Thomas Horton, Gina and Vince Hiatt; sons and daughters-in-law, Jason and Angelia Draughn, Kenneth and Andrea Draughn; grandchildren Emily Hiatt, Savannah Hiatt, Olivia Hiatt, Kendall Draughn, Katie Draughn, Hannah Horton, Kristin Horton, Jared Horton, Kenley Horton, Myles Draughn, and Lilla Draughn; sisters and brothers-in-law, Juanita and Carlis Edwards, Zettie and Carl Smith, Dean Hall, and James Shinault; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Walter and Shelby Draughn, Roger Draughn; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Draughn was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Robin Draughn; sisters, Frances Leftwich, Mary Lou Hall, and Jackie Shinault; brothers, Clifford Draughn, Arnold Draughn; a sister-in-law, Linda Draughn and a brother-in-law, Rawdon Leftwich.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 2, 2019, at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Chris Benfield officiating.  Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens with military honors by VFW Memorial Honor Guard, Pilot Mtn Post 9436 & Mt. Airy Post 2019.  The family will receive friends at the church Friday night from 6:00 to 8:00. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mrs. Draughn at 527 Penn St., Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to thank Mountain Valley Hospice for such great care during Wayne's sickness.
