Mr. Johnnie Elzie Dunkley, 83, of Stuart, VA, passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Dunkley was born July 29, 1927, in Patrick County, VA, to the late Charlie Lee and Lottie Neva Overby Dunkley. Johnnie retired from Daniels Construction and served our country in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. He was a member of Asbury Presbyterian Church. He is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Patricia Anne and John Simmons of Chesapeake, VA, Becky Hunter of Mount Airy, and Wanda and Gary Stanley of Dobson; a son and daughter-in-law, Stanley and Rona Dunkley of Jacksonville, FL; five grandchildren and their spouses, Andrew and Michelle Simmons, Aimee and Shea Molihan, Adam Stanley, Nicole Dunkley, and Nicholas Stanley; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Anna Epperson of Stuart, VA; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobby and Linda Dunkley of Stuart, VA, and Steve and Barbara Dunkley of Axton, VA; and "special" friends, Denise Slate of Mount Airy and Stacey Combs Stuart, VA. In addition to his parents, Mr. Dunkley was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Alma Stanley Dunkley; and a son-in-law, Gearl Hunter. The funeral service will be held Saturday, February 19, 2011, at 11:00 AM at Asbury Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Terry Collins officiating. Burial will follow in the Bell Spur Cemetery, with full military rites conducted by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard from Mount Airy. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. The family would like to express a "special thanks" to the doctors and staff at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home for the care given during Mr. Dunkley's stay there.
