Mr. Johnny William Barneycastle, of Mt. Airy passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at his home with his wife Loretta Hall Barneycastle by his side. He was born in Surry County on May 3, 1940, to the late Coy and Mary Lee Carter Barneycastle. Johnny was a member of Granite Masonic Lodge #322 and past President of Surry Shrine Club. He enjoyed driving his little Mini Truck in various parades while giving high-fives and candy to the children. Johnny was the Owner and Operator of Main Street Texaco in Mt. Airy for over 40 years where he made many friends until a severe stroke pushed him into retirement in 2013. Johnny never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone. Left to cherish his memory, wife, Loretta Hall Barneycastle of the home; daughter, Shannon Barneycastle of Winston Salem; sons and fiancé Johnny Blake Barneycastle and Macayla (Kaylie) Brickell, of the home, Stephen William Barneycastle of Winston Salem; one grandchild, Madison Clark; sisters, Mary Jane Key of Dobson, and Mozelle Bledson of Dobson; a brother and sister-in-law, Calvin and Nancy Barneycastle of Siloam; many nieces and nephews; special friends Bill Mabry and Hurley Farmer. In addition to his parents, Johnny was preceded in death by a son, Johnny Ray Barneycastle, and brother’s, C.L. Barneycastle, Sanford Barneycastle, Jimmy Barneycastle, Gene Barneycastle, and many lifelong friends. A memorial graveside service will be held Monday, August 2, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Skyline Memory Gardens with the Rev. Sammy Lawson officiating. Masonic rites will be held at the cemetery. The family will receive friends after the service at Skyline. The family request that memorials be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 401 Technology Ln., Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030, or to Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 W. Faris Rd., Greenville, SC 29605. A special heartfelt thank you goes out to Janene Moss, RN, Cindy Beverly, RN and Mike Fields, CNA, for the care and support shown to us during Johnny’s illness.
