Johnny Ray Childress

Mr. Johnny Ray Childress, age 81, of Elkin, passed away Sunday, July 10,2022, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. He was born August 8, 1940, in Surry County to the late Johnny William Childress and the late Ella Mae Jenkins Childress. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Deborah Childress; and a great grandson, Ethan Duggins. Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Betty Poindexter Childress; daughters and sons-in-law, Roxanne and David Wilson and Tina and Justin Tilley; son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Sheila Childress; grandchildren, Amanda Sutherland (Kenny), Kayla Duggins (Justin), Amy Harris (Dusty), Faith Tilley, Travis Childress (Crystal) and Jason Childress; great grandchildren, Lexi Sutherland, Abby Sutherland, Haley Duggins, Ryder Harris and Raylan Harris.

Mr. Childress was a member of Little Vine Primitive Baptist Church and was a retired overhead crane operator. Visitation will be Thursday, July 14, 2022 from 6-8 PM at Moody-Davis Funeral Service. Funeral service will be held Friday, July 15 at 2:00 PM, in the Little Vine Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Avery Branch and Elder Joey Jenkins officiating with burial to follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Little Vine Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund. In care of Bill Branch, 1025 Pratt Road, Ararat, NC 27007.
