Mr. Johnny McArthur Forrest, 76, of Mount Airy, died peacefully on Thursday night, July 26, 2018. Born February 20, 1942, in Cumberland County, he was the son of the late John and Lucy Lee Culler Forrest. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lee Forrest and Aldy Forrest; and a sister, Mary Forrest Hicks. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Tim Vestal of Kernersville; a son, Shane Forrest of Mount Airy; his grandchildren, Courtney Bumgardner and her husband, Corey, of Mount Airy, Kyle Forrest of Pilot Mountain, and Tori Vestal of Kernersville; his stepgrandsons, Chris Vestal and his wife, Kara, and Josh Vestal, all of Kernersville; a great-grandchild, Grayson Lasley; and two great-stepgrandchildren, Lilah Vestal and Flynn Vestal. Also surviving are two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lona and Herbert Reynolds of Winston-Salem and Barbara and Dillard Goad of Mount Airy; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Margie Forrest of Rural Hall and Junior and Ann Forrest of Mount Airy; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. “Mac,” as he was known by his family and friends, retired as a supervisor from Renfro Corporation after more than 30 years of service. Music was a true passion of Mac’s, especially country and bluegrass music. He played the guitar and sang for 50-plus years, often performing in his earlier years with groups at special events and lodges. Additionally, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends and will be remembered for his kind and gentle spirit. The funeral service will be held Sunday, August 5, 2018, at 4:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Richard Loman officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday from 3:00 until 4:00 PM at the funeral home. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the loving care and compassion shown by the staff at Northern Hospital of Surry County and the staff at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home.
