Johnny Ray Hamlin

Mr. Johnny Ray Hamlin, 79, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday afternoon, January 29, 2018, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Hamlin was born April 18, 1938, in Surry County, one of five children born to the late Ed and Linnie Adeline McMillian Hamlin. Johnny served our country in the United States Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis era. He was a self-employed carpenter and a member of Turkey Ford Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Frances Louise “Lou” Parks Hamlin of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Jodi Hamlin of Lowgap and David and Crystal Hamlin of Mount Airy; two grandchildren, Lyndsi Hamlin and Sam Hamlin, both of Mount Airy; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Peggy Whitaker of Siloam, Joyce Gammons of Mount Airy, Bonnie and Roger Cook of Dobson, and Judy and Mitchell Sprinkle of Pilot Mountain; three sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Maedell and Rex Quesinberry, Rachel Parks, and Margaret Parks, all of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hamlin was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Parks; and four brothers-in-law, Roger Whitaker, Billy Gammons, Bruce Parks, and Earl Parks. The funeral service will be held Thursday, February 1, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Steven Corn and the Rev. Alton Bledsoe officiating. Burial will follow in the Turkey Ford Baptist Church Cemetery, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard.
