Johnny Lee Slate

Mr. Johnny Lee Slate, 81, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2020, at his home.  Mr. Slate was born June 16, 1939, in Surry County, to the late Abraham Lincoln and Mary Magdalene Holt Slate.  Johnny was a loving father and grandfather, who will surely be missed by all who knew him.  Left to cherish his memories are a daughter and son-in-law, Toni and Brian Smith; a son, Donald Robinson; seven grandchildren, Eric Robinson, Alex Robinson, Zoe Robinson, Chase Robinson, Carmen Mitchell, Evan Mitchell, and Haylee Smith; two great-grandchildren, Kadin Robinson and Landon Robinson; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Betty Lovill and Barbara and Don Chandler; and two brothers and a sister-in-law, Jimmy and Barbara Slate and Donald Slate.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Slate was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Louise Gwyn Slate; a sister, Brenda Slate; and two brothers, Kenneth Slate and Roger Slate, Sr.  The funeral service will be held Monday, October 5, 2020, at 3:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Randy Edwards officiating.  Burial will follow in the Zion Hill Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Monday from 2:00 until 3:00 PM at the funeral home.
