Mr. Jonathan Mark Riggs, 50, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, September 25, 2021, at Northern Regional Hospital, due to complications of COVID. Born June 28, 1971, in Mount Airy, John graduated from Mount Airy High School in 1990. He completed additional studies in diesel mechanic technology at Forsyth Technical Community College. John worked for Dane Construction before he and his wife, Malinda, opened the Westfield Grill and Pilot Mountain Guns and Ammo. A steadfast member and deacon of Bannertown Baptist Church, he was very active in the outreach programs of the church, especially providing meals for the Bannertown community. He was instrumental in helping the church rebuild following a devastating fire in 2015. He loved to cook and enjoyed catering events throughout Surry County. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, farming, and spending time with his family at their log cabin in the mountains. John never met a stranger and was always willing to help others. He was a member of the Round Peak Masonic Lodge #616 AF and AM. John and Malinda were founding members of the Round Peak Order of the Eastern Star #377. John was a consistent supporter of the Mount Airy Youth Foundation and Mount Airy High School Football. John is survived by his loving wife, Malinda; and his three sons, David (Erica Miller, fiancée), Clinton, and Colton. Also surviving are his parents, Billy Riggs and Bonnie Tickle Riggs; and his brother, Phillip (Carol) Riggs. A service of worship and celebration of John’s life will be held Sunday, October 17, 2021, at 3:00 PM at Bannertown Baptist Church. No formal visitation will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Riggs Children Scholarship Fund at Surrey Bank and Trust, 653 South Key Street, Pilot Mountain, NC 27041; or Bannertown Baptist Church, 1834 Westfield Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
