Mr. Joseph Dean “Joe” Cockerham, 81, of Lowgap, passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Cockerham was born June 26, 1937, in Surry County, to the late Lemuel and Etta Moxley Cockerham. He was well known for his excellent work in construction and was the owner of Joe Cockerham and Son Construction. Among the many who will always cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Dolly Grayson Galyean Cockerham; a daughter and son-in-law, Vicky and Aubrey Lowe; a son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Tracy Cockerham; his grandchildren, Amy Harrison and her husband, Phillip, Mandi Lawson, Megan Daughenbaugh and her husband, Perry, Katelyn Cockerham, Kayla Edmonds and her husband, John, and Fisher Cockerham; twelve great-grandchildren; a sister, Mozelle Wright; and a brother, Jim Cockerham. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cockerham was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Tammy Jo Cockerham; two sisters, Zola Doby and Lola Cockerham; and two brothers, Rayburn Cockerham and Tommy Cockerham. The funeral service will be held Friday, November 30, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Chris Oakley and the Rev. Ewell Vernon officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
