Mr. Joseph William Draughon, 66, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday, September 2, 2013, at Carolinas Medical Center - NorthEast in Concord. Mr. Draughon was born April 12, 1947, in Surry County, the son of the late Marvin S. Draughon, Sr. and Margaret M. Draughon. Joseph was a retired truck driver, truck salesman, and automotive body repairman. Joseph was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He was a teacher and mentor to many. Above all, he loved his family - all of them - particularly his five granddaughters. He also loved banana pudding and his dogs. He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Ann Venable Draughon of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Myron Joseph and Melanie Draughon of Pfafftown; a stepdaughter, Tracy Golding of Mount Airy; three granddaughters, Megan Draughon, Morgan Draughon, and McKenzie Draughon, all of Pfafftown; two stepgranddaughters, Stacy Hawks of Lowgap and Elizabeth Rose Hawks of Mount Airy; a sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Eddie Rupard of Jonesville; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Marvin S. Draughon, Jr. of Kernersville, Jeff and Patty Draughon of Ararat, and Alex Draughon of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Draughon was preceded in death by a stepson, Michael Hawks. A memorial graveside service will be held Friday, September 6, 2013, at 11:00 AM at Hutchens-Venable Cemetery, with the Rev. Jake Penley and the Rev. Shirley Combs officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
