Joseph Ellis Hawks

Mr. Joseph Ellis Hawks, age 78, formerly of Cana, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at Carolina’s Medical Center.  Mr. Hawks was born in Carroll County on October 13, 1940 to Lonnie and Grady Easter Hawks.  He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather who will be dearly missed.  Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Shirley Poteat Hawks; sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Dascira Hawks, and Matt and Gleidy Hawks; grandchildren, Joshua Hawks, Isabel Hawks, Ashlynn Hawks and Nathan Hawks; sisters, Edith Jones and Eveline Goad as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Mr. Hawks was preceded in death by a sister, Rosa Hawks and a brother Clarence Hawks.  A graveside service will be held Sunday, January 20, 2019, at 2:00 PM at Oak Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery by Pastor Winston Davis. There will not be a formal visitation.  However, friends are welcome at Moody Funeral Home to pay their respects.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shirley Hawks at 1101 Five Forks Rd., Waxhaw, NC 28173.
