Mr. Joseph Ervin Haynes, 85 of Mt. Airy, passed away at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home Sunday, October 20, 2019.  He was born in Surry County February 20, 1934 to the late Thomas Martin Haynes and Mary Catherine “Cassie” Gates Haynes.  Mr. Haynes bravely served our country with a dedicated career in the U.S. Airforce.  Mr. Haynes was a member of Maple Grove United Methodist Church.  He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Janice Shelton, Janet and Wayne Marshall, Teresa and Carl Shelton and Margaret and Jonathan Bandy; sons and daughters-in-law Joseph and Trish Haynes, David and Evelyn Haynes; grandchildren, Neoshia Newman, Wadena Newman, Crystal Hopkins and husband Josh, Brandon Marshall, Landen Marshall and wife Dakota, Laiken Shelton, Kaitlen Shelton, Cody Hatcher and wife Betty, Jake Haynes and Emily Nicholson; great-grandchildren, Maurice Newman-Vargus, Michaela Vargus, Alannah Jessie, Cordae Young, Luke Hatcher and Brady Hatcher; sisters and brothers-in-law, Wanda and Lonnie Midkiff, Nellie Taylor, Lorraine and Kornell Hooker; brothers and sisters-in-law, Wade and Carol Haynes and Glenn and Ginger Haynes.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Haynes was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Jane Linskey Haynes; a daughter, Janine Haynes; grandchildren, Daniel Haynes and Zack Shelton; a sister, Diane Marie Haynes; and a brother, Tommy Haynes.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at Maple Grove United Methodist Church with Pastor Ray Morgan and Rev. Dennis “Bud” Cameron officiating.  Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery with full military rites.  In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial contribution be made to Maple Grove United Methodist Church, c/o Annette Jones, 146 McCormick Street, Mt.
