Joseph Lee Nunn

Mr. Joseph Lee Nunn, age 92, of Middle River, Maryland, passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2019, in Essex, MD.  Mr. Nunn was born in Stokes County on February 21, 1926, the 9th child of 12 children born to Joseph Franklin “Frank” Nunn and Martha Etta Cain Nunn.  He served our country in the United States Army during WWII and was a proud member of the 17th Airborne Glider Division, which was dismantled and later named the 82nd Airborne.  He flew plywood gliders instead of parachuting.  Gliders could carry more soldiers into enemy territory.  Mr. Nunn was also retired from NSA Security Agency after many years of dedicated service.  Left to cherish his memory are his son and daughter-in-law, Joseph Lee Nunn, II and wife Nancy; grandchildren and their spouses, Lisa and Jim Valdez, Joseph Lee Nunn, III and wife Lisa, John Derrick Nunn, and Eric Shane Nunn; great-grandchildren, Ricardo Luke Valdez, Lucinda Michelle Valdez, and Eric Shane Nunn, II; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Nunn was preceded in death by his wife, the love of his life, Nellie Iona Snow Nunn; and all ten of his siblings, Albert Monroe Nunn, Elliott Theodore Nunn, Johnnie Lewis Nunn, Delmer Herman Nunn, Bernice Olivia Nunn Gwyn, Nonnie Mae Nunn Moorefield, Ila Annie Nunn Cain, James “JC” Cephus Nunn, Lou Etta Nunn Inman, Gaford Aldine Nunn, and Susie McKinney.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 10, 2019, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Rusty Reed.  Burial will follow in Brims Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors by VFW Memorial Honor Guard, Pilot Mountain Post 9436 & Mt. Airy Post 2019.  The family will receive friends on Wednesday night from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
