Mr. Joseph Wheeler "Joe" Pell, Jr., 80, of Walkertown, passed away Saturday, October 30, 2010, at Medical Park Hospital in Winston-Salem. Mr. Pell was born June 28, 1930, in Patrick County, VA, son of the late Joseph Wheeler Pell, Sr. and Cora King Pell. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served in the Korean Conflict, and retired as a mechanic from the United States Postal Service after 29 years of service. Surviving are his loving wife of 54 years, Mildred Montgomery Pell of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Charles and Tammy Pell of Pfafftown and Gregory "Greg" Pell and his "special friend," Samran Combs, of Belews Creek; two grandchildren, Kathryn Pell and Jonathan Pell, who was the light of Mr. Pell's life; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Alene and Charlie Tillis of Hogansville, GA, Annie and Ozzie Montgomery of Stanley, and Sylvia and Elmer Dawson of Claudville, VA; a brother and two sisters-in-law, Benjamin and Pauline Pell and Marie Pell, all of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Pell was preceded in death by a daughter, Melinda Pell; and two brothers, Harrison Pell and the Rev. Willis Pell; a sister-in-law, Fenton Pell; and a brother-in-law, Leonard Lankford; and a great niece, Brianna Wilson. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 2, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Harry Sherrill officiating. Interment will follow at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 untiil 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
