Mrs. Josephine Bowman Dawson, 79, of Ararat, VA, passed away at Forsyth Medical Center, Saturday, March 20, 2021. She was born in Patrick County, VA, September 20, 1941 to the late William Chestley and Nellie Marshall Bowman. Mrs. Dawson was a strong and determined lady. She was a wonderful Christian woman, dedicated to reading her Bible daily. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. Everyone knew, if they came to visit and left hungry, it was no one’s fault but their own. Mrs. Dawson was talented with making quilts and crocheting gifts for family and friends. She loved her flowers; her favorite were pansies. She was a faithful member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church for 53 years and will be dearly missed by everyone. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dawson was preceded in death by a daughter, Pansy Faith Dawson. Left to cherish her memory are, her devoted husband of almost 61 years, Waymond Phillip Dawson; her daughters and son-in-law, Wanette Dawson; Pam and Eugene Rutherford; and sons, Phillip Dawson, and Danny Dawson; grandchildren, Jonathan and Abby Goad; Katrina and Shawn Gilley; adored great grandchildren, Opal and Gus Gilley; sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Billy Hawks; brother and sister-in-law, Bro. Benny and Kay Bowman. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Sechrist, and Rev. Oscar Hill officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1:00 PM until the time of the service. For anyone unable to attend the visitation or service, you are welcome to go by the funeral home to pay your respects on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 from 2:00 until 5:00 PM.
