Mrs. Josephine McBride Leonard, 70, of 301 Sunset Drive, Cana, VA, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2007, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC, after a long illness. Mrs. Leonard was born November 27, 1936, in Surry County, NC, to the late Joseph and Myrtle Hawks McBride. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Leonard was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and friend to all. Surviving are her children and their spouses, Sandy Leonard Childress of Cana, VA, Harley and Debbie Leonard of Winston-Salem, NC, and Dwight and Vickie Leonard and Darrell and Deborah Leonard, all of Cana, VA; eight special grandchildren, Heather, Caitlin, Chris, Andy, Katrina, Matthew, Brittney, and Danielle; five special great grandchildren, Annabelle, Gretchen, Haley, Wyatt and Christopher; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Imogene and Sam Collins, Mary Sue and Bobby Burkhart, Sarah Jackson, Alene Jarrell, and Clinton McCraw, all of Mount Airy, NC; and two brothers and three sisters-in-law, C.J. and Thelma McBride, Tommy and Iona McBride, and Annie McBride, all of Mount Airy, NC. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Leonard was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Lindsey Leonard; three sisters, Ruth McCraw, Maybelle "May" Colson, and Ravena "Deen" Freeman; and a brother, Fred McBride. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 13, 2007, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Verlon Combs, and burial will follow in the Flower Gap Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Flower Gap Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Geraldine Leonard, P.O. Box 44, Cana, VA 24317.
