Josie Marie Sutphin

Miss Josie Marie Sutphin age 88 of 127 Dover Church Road, Mt. Airy, NC passed away Saturday, March 15, 2008 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin, NC. She was born November 23, 1919 in Surry County to the late Rowdy and Nannie Slaydon Sutphin. She was a retired belt captain at Spencer's and was a graduate of White Plains High School. Miss Sutphin was a devoted member of Dover Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for many years. She was honored last year by the WMU members of Dover Baptist Church with a plaque for fifty years of service Surviving are two sisters and a brother-in-law, Peggy Sutphin Sparger and John, Pilot Mountain, and Geneva Sutphin Lane, Colfax, numerous nieces and nephews and her special care givers. In addition to her parents, Miss Sutphin was preceded in death by a sister, Bernice Sutphin Rakes, and three brothers, Curtis J. Sutphin, Edward J. Sutphin and Hugh Carroll Sutphin. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, March 17, 2008 at Dover Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Terry Lane and Rev. J. Cecil Hill. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday 12:00 noon until time to go the church for the funeral service at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mt. Airy.
