Mrs. Joyce Leftwich Mondie, 88, of Haw River, passed away early Thursday morning, February 17, 2022, at Central Continuing Care in Mount Airy. Mrs. Mondie was born November 17, 1933, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Jack and Ollie Jones Leftwich. She retired as a teacher, having taught in Alamance and Surry counties for many years. Joyce was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Mebane. She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Sandra and Gary Culler, Sheila Mondie, and Carla and George Burns; a son, Brad Mondie; eleven grandchildren, Shasta Jackson, Brandon Culler, Chuck Haynes, Shelly Mann, Sheena Deramgozin, Brian Mondie, Brett Mondie, Beth Goodwin, Shane Burns, Shannon Burns, and Blake Mondie; fourteen great-grandchildren; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Connie Hensley, Vera Combs, and Carolyn and John Bregel; a brother and sister-in-law, Ernest and Linda Leftwich; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mondie was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Edward Mondie; a son, Brent Mondie; and a sister, Elsie Fain. The family will receive friends Sunday, February 20, 2022, from 3:30 until 5:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. A graveside service will be held Monday, February 21, 2022, at 12:00 PM at Lighthouse Baptist Church Cemetery, located at 6601 Bowman Road, Mebane.
