Juanita Taylor Barber

Juanita Taylor Barber, 88, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 20 at an assisted living facility in King. The daughter of Celia and Lawrence Taylor of Surry County, Barber was preceded in death by siblings Jack, Mary Frances,Paul and Hassel Taylor. An accomplished businesswoman, Barber co-owned Oakdale Knitting Company with husband, Tollie Chester Barber, Jr. In the mid-1960s, Barber moved to Washington, D.C., and served as a head accountant for the National Academy of Sciences until her retirment in the early 1980s. An avid golfer and gardener, Barber was formerly a member of the Mount Airy Country Club. She was also a member of Central Methodist Church.
Surviving relatives include one son, Tollie Chester Barber III, and wife, Pat of Winston-Salem; grandchildren Sara Brooke Barber of Terre Haute, Ind., Jamie Barber of Richmond, Va., Christopher Layne Barber of Raleigh, Keith Taylor Barber of Wilmington, and one great-grandson,Christopher Layne Barber, Jr.
