From an early age Judy showed a talent for arts and learning. She was the apple of her grandmother’s eye, Mary Lee Stanley, who encouraged her in many endeavors in learning about the world, especially learning about nature and developing her talent for various crafts. Judy had a real artistic gift and was known for the many shadow box displays she created. In her later years she became a genealogy whiz. She was well known for her expertise in researching genealogy with her keen attention to detail and the love of the history these searches brought to light. She researched both sides of her family producing volumes of information and helped with many other people researching their family history. Her vast amount of research work was donated to the Archives of Surry Community College. She was very well respected and was known in the genealogy community as the “deed finder.” Judy was a member of several national and local historical societies.
