Judy Vaughn Shelton

Judy Vaughn Shelton, age 77, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born in Martinsville, VA to the late Noel Vaughn and Dorothy Stedman McDaniel. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband James Douglas Shelton; one brother, Mike Vaughn. She was a lifelong member of New Hope Church of the Brethren where she was a deaconess and sang in the church choir. She loved sewing and embroidery, especially making scripture quilts, had a green thumb with flowers and plants. She was very caring and would do anything for the people she loved including displaying a kind heart to the people in the community whether it be visits or donations to the less fortunate.

Mrs. Shelton is survived by two daughters, Nellie “Shannie” Shelton Jessup of Stuart, and Melody Shelton Hutchens and husband, Joey of Temperanceville, VA; seven grandchildren, James Kary Jessup, Lilly Sofia Jessup, Chessie Shoemaker Turner, Layla Shoemaker, Sadie Shoemaker, Patrick Russell, and Joella Hutchens; one brother, Gary Vaughn and wife Elaine of Stuart; sister-in-law, Catheryn Vaughn of Stuart; and half-sister, Jeannie Martin Howard of Tennessee; caregiver and dear friend, Judy Hale; and life long best friend, Sandra Halsey Wood.

A Funeral service will be held Saturday, December 14, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at Moody Funeral Chapel with Pastor Rick Randall officiating. Burial will follow in Union Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
