June Elizabeth Moody Franks

Mrs. June Elizabeth Moody Franks, 77, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at her daughter’s home. Mrs. Franks was born September 9, 1939, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Roger Howard and Mary Elizabeth Kingsbury Moody. She retired as a clerical accountant and was a member of the North Carolina Society of Accountants. Mrs. Franks was also a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Jerry Lynn Franks; her daughters and sons-in-law, Janet Ring, Jill and Mark Puckett, Susan and Craig Slate, and Paula Jones; her son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Renee Ring; her grandchildren, John Ring, Adam Ring, Jerry Joseph Ring, Ryan Walker, Matthew Walker, Albert M. Blackmon, Jr., Melissa Varney, Meagan Puckett, Jason Ashley, Josh Ashley, Jessie Ashley, James F. Ashley, Jr., Gralyn Slate, Levi Slate, Cody Slate, Victoria Hazelwood, and Chasity Hawks; her great-grandchildren; Tyler Ring, Rachel Ring, Ethan Ring, Isaac Ring, Jonah Bear Walker, Phillip Brave Walker, Albert M. “Albie” Blackmon, III, Jasmine Varney, Bryson Varney, Mason Varney, Natalie Puckett, Bentley Bonner, Amelia Hazelwood, Lukcus Hawks, Cheyenne Hawks, Dakota Hawks, and Ty Hawks; and two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Gary and Debby Moody, Philip and Deborah Moody, and Sue Moody. In addition to her parents, June was preceded in death by two daughters, Judy Burgess and Robin Jones; and two brothers, Wesley Moody and Donald Lee Moody. The funeral service will be held Saturday, March 11, 2017, at 2:00 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Mount Airy, with Bishop John Bradley, Elder Leon Hiatt, and President David P. Hiatt officiating. Interment will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:00 until 2:00 PM in the Relief Society Room at The Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints, and other times at her daughter’s home at 157 Astor Street, Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
