Junior Marshall

Mr. Junior Marshall, 91, of Mt. Airy passed away Sunday, August 13, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family.  Mr. Marshall was born in Surry County on March 29, 1932, to the Ola Marshall Edwards.  He retired from Amtrak Railroad and was a member of Union Hill Friends Church.  Mr. Marshall proudly served our country in the United States Army.  He is survived by a daughter, Stephanie Marshall; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary Marshall and significate other, Lois Edwards, Sheila Bliss; grandchildren, Nicholas Marshall and Sally, Morgan Marshall, Jake Marshall, Daijah Lucas, Phenix Lucas and Keila Marshall; great-grandchild, Austin Marshall; brothers-in-law, Larry Newman and Carolyn, Dennis “Pete” Payne; half-brother, Robert Whitaker; a sister-in-law, JoAnn Newman; many nieces and nephews.  In addition to his mother, Mr. Marshall was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou Newman Marshall; a son, Richard “Rick” Marshall; brothers, Gray Edwards, Leonard Edwards; his stepfather, Walter Edwards.  A funeral service will be held Thursday, August 17, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ernest Brown officiating.  Burial will follow in Union Hill Friends Church Cemetery and military honors conducted by VFW Post 2019 of Mt. Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain.  The family will receive friends Thursday from 9:30 until 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy.  The family would like to give a special thank you to the Veterans Health Administration Home Based Primary Care team, Angela Donnelly, Deborah Phillips and Dr. Diggs, and to Mountain Valley Hospice, Donna Keck, Tonya Marshall, and to Bridgett Payne for the love and care they provided.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice.  Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
