Junior Arlis "Shorty" Stanley, 87, of Dobson, died peacefully on June 4, 2010. He passed away with a smile on his face, his hands lifted toward heaven, and the Lord in his heart. He was born in Surry County on February 8, 1923. Shorty was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife, Nora Stanley; his parents, Raleigh and Hettie Stanley; a brother, Artis "Shag" Stanley; and a grandson, Paul Arlin Cave. He was a gifted musician that loved playing his harmonica, auto harp, and guitar and listening to bluegrass music. Shorty is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Arlin and Edna Stanley of Dobson; grandchildren, Pam and Mike Cheek of Hamptonville, Ginger and Jimmy Smith of Elkin, Kent and Kim Stanley of Boonville, and Dena and Phillip Cave of Elkin; eight great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, R.G. and Ellie Stanley of Clemmons; and a sister, Frances Cave of Dobson. The family will receive friends at the home on Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A sunrise graveside service will be held Sunday, June 6, 2010, at 7:00 AM in the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery in Dobson. The family extends a thank you to Surry Friends of Seniors and Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for their loving care during his last days. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 431 Jenkinstown Road, Dobson, NC 27017. A special thank you to Mitzi Woodring and Charlene Trivette for their loving care. Moody-Davis Funeral Home is serving the family.
A sunrise graveside service will be held Sunday June 6, 2010 at 7 AM in the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery in Dobson.
The family will receive friends at the home on Saturday from 6-8pm.
