Kate Marie Sutphin McBride

Mrs. Kate Marie Sutphin McBride, 101, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at Central Continuing Care. Mrs. McBride was born September 6, 1910, in Surry County, to the late Walter O. and Mary Jettie Kirkman Sutphin. She retired from Adams Millis and was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church. Mrs. McBride was widowed at a young age and devoted her life to the wellbeing of her children whom she loved dearly. Left to cherish her memory are two daughters and a son-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Johnson of Mount Airy and Jettie and Ron Venable of Salisbury; a son and daughter-in-law, Ted and Jean McBride of Mount Airy; grandchildren, Jimmy Dale McBride of Key West, FL, Elizabeth Carol and Alan Bills of Charlotte, John W. and Angie Venable of Clemmons, Rebecca and Brad Callaway of Mount Airy, and Maria Johnson of Tampa, FL; and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. McBride was preceded in death by her husband, Boss Benton McBride; a son, Jimmy Lee McBride; six sisters, Ila Stevens, Elmer Hicks, Geroline Jones, Jeanette Joyce, Pearl Baughan, and Jessie Loftis; and a brother, Albert Sutphin. The funeral service will be held Friday, December 30, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Fellowship Baptist Church, with the Rev. Chris Benfield officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at Fellowship Baptist Church. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Central Continuing Care and Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for the love and care given to Mrs. McBride. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials to Fellowship Baptist Church, 922 Banner Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030; Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or Flat Rock Baptist Church, P.O.
