Katherine Caudell Graves

Katherine Caudell Graves passed peacefully on March 6th, 2022, in the home of her daughter, Jennifer Graves Nester, at the age of 75. Katherine is preceded in death by parents Floyd and Jeanette Caudell. Left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Jennifer and son-in-law Kerry Nester; her four grandchildren, Beasley Nester, Hiatt Nester, Samuel Nester, and Stella Blue Nester; and her two sisters, Sandra Carole Hackett and Llewellynne Stonebraker. She also leaves behind her beloved dog, Mickey Tarheel (she loved those Tar Heels), in the care of her daughter’s family.

Katherine graduated from the Technical Institute of Alamance in 1967. She saw long careers at Brame Specialty in Durham, NC, and later at the School of Public Health at the University of North Carolina. Katherine enjoyed both football and basketball with the Tar Heels and New Orleans Saints being her true loves. It was not uncommon to hear her planning her week around which games would be on TV! She was an avid reader and a lover of knitting, quilting, and sewing, making many beautiful pieces for all her loved ones over the years. She received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine award in 1980. Her faith as an Episcopalian was a large part of her life. Her home church for many years was Holy Comforter Episcopal Church in Burlington, where she served on the altar guild and helped start the Backpack Program.

Services will be held Saturday, March 12th, at 2 p.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Roxboro, North Carolina, 422 Main Street. There will be a Spreading of the Ashes ceremony immediately following the services and family will greet visitors in the house parlor adjacent to the church afterward.

Katherine was someone who enjoyed meeting people and making friendships. She had the ability to form a conversation with everyone she met and remembered the details for years to come. She always believed in her family and loved them dearly. She will be missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.
