Katherine W. Joyce, age 56, of Winston-Salem, NC passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart, VA. She was born July 11, 1960 in Oakland, CA to Thomas and Phyllis Wilson. She was raised in Piedmont, CA but finished school in Darien, CT. She was a 1978 graduate of Darien (CT) High School, and a 1982 graduate of Mount Vernon College where she majored in Interior Design. She married James H. Joyce III in 1988, and they lived and raised their family in Winston-Salem, NC. She worked as an interior designer and travel agent before starting the career she loved most in the world, being a full-time mom devoted to her three children: Jimmy Joyce, Matthew Joyce and Jennifer Joyce. She accepted Christ as her savior as an adult and was baptized with her two sons at First Baptist Church of Winston-Salem. She was active in her church, her community, and her neighborhood. She loved playing tennis, skiing, sailing, photography, music and travel. She was happiest at the beach with her beloved family and friends. Beyond her family and friends, her special passion was serving as a missionary each January to the village of Cielo in the Dominican Republic. She came to know and love Christ and the people of the DR over her many trips there. In addition to her husband and three children, Katherine is survived by her father Thomas Wilson, mother Phyllis Carmichael, brother Jonathan Wilson, daughter-in-law Rachel Joyce, special family friend Maria Alexander, and her big extended family who loved her dearly. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org). Two memorial services will be held to celebrate the life of Katherine Joyce. The first will be on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Moody Funeral Services in Stuart, VA. The second will be on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Winston-Salem, NC. Katherine’s family will receive visitors at both services one hour before each service.
