Katherine Tucker Slate

Mrs. Katherine “Sis” Tucker Slate, 80, of Mount Airy, went home to be with the Lord on Friday morning, September 24, 2021, from the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Slate was born November 26, 1940, in Wilkes County, the daughter of the late Luther Herman Tucker and Annie Inman Tucker Jenkins. Katherine worked in the dietary department at Northern Regional Hospital, and she later retired from Food Lion. She was a faithful member of White Plains Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and W.L. Cook of Mount Airy; a son, Gary Slate of Mount Airy; two daughters-in-law, Teresa Slate Tesh and her husband, Mark, and Chriss Slate, all of Mount Airy; her grandchildren, Kristen and Damon Sprinkle, Candace and Eric Poole, Bradley and Ashleigh Slate, Tabitha Pannebaker, Shannon Cook, Olivia Bryant, April Hiatt, and TaKellia and Steve Atwood; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, the Rev. Bill Tucker of Mount Airy; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Faye Edwards of Mount Airy. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Slate was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Eugene Slate; two sons, Bobby Dean Slate and Vestal Leon Slate; five sisters, Cora Lee Edwards, Arlene Heller, JoAnn Tate, Helen Hudson, and Gladys McCormick; and a grandson, William Leonard Cook. The funeral service will be held Monday, September 27, 2021, at 2:00 PM at White Plains Baptist Church, with the Rev. David Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in the Willis Gap Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the church. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
