Kathleen Kirkman Chilton

Mrs. Kathleen Kirkman Chilton, 94 of Mount Airy, passed away Friday, July 23, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family. Mrs. Chilton was born in Surry County on June 3, 1927 to the late Romie and Lillie Belton Kirkman. Kathleen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her. Left to cherish her memories are her husband of 75 years, Dalmer Lewis Chilton; two daughters, Carol Jean Johnson, Kathy Chilton; one son and daughter-in-law, Lewis Dean Chilton and Debbie; one son-in-law, Eugene Johnson; grandchildren and spouses, Todd Johnson and Cassina Maynor, Chris Johnson and Kelly, Scottie Chilton and Amber, Josh Chilton, Amanda Bare and Jason, Ashley Simmons and Colt, Chase Joyce; great-grandchildren, Michael Johnson, Jessica Johnson, Charlie Johnson, Hannah Chilton, Cameron Chilton, Bella Chilton, Brayden Chilton, Breelyn Bare, Jaylon Bare, Tyson Simmons, Aubree Kathleen Simmons; two sisters-in-law, Flossie Kirkman, Mary Laura Stevens; along with several nieces and nephews, and a special caregiver/friend, Shelby Graybeal. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Chilton was preceded in death by a grandson, Travis Chilton; brothers, Glen Kirkman, Artie Kirkman, Treva Kirkman, Hersie Kirkman, Dennis “Dink” Kirkman, William “Blackie” Kirkman, Carl “Rabbit” Kirkman and Cecil Kirkman. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at 11 AM at the Shelton Church of the Brethren with Rev. Rusty Reed officiating. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 26, 2021 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Shelton Church of the Brethren.
