Kathleen LuEva Bray Hoyng “Katy” went home to the Lord on December 28, 2018 after battling lung cancer and having lived a good Christian life. She was born on February 11, 1943 in DeRidder, Louisiana to James Russell (Jim) and LuEva Burdette Bray while her Dad was serving in the Army. She graduated from Mt. Airy Senior High in 1961. She was married to Wallace Melvin Estes with whom she has two sons, Reverend Charles Wallace (Chuck) Estes and James Daniel (Dan) Estes. She married Michael Alan (Mike) Hoyng on April 7, 1979. She has worked several places as an office assistant retiring in 2000. She was a member of the Jonathan Hunt chapter of the DAR. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, James Saxton and Mollie Russell Bray, her parents, cousin, Shannon Smith, aunts Rachel and husband, Robert Smith, and Bessie Lou and husband, Lewis Webb, and by cousin Robert Smith’s wife, Martha. Survivors include husband, Mike, sons Chuck wife, Julie, and Dan and wife Jill, grandchildren Danielle Todd and husband, Ryan, Brandon, Gabriel, and Rachel Estes, Haley and Hannah Harnichar-Estes and Mikeal Lowery-Estes, brother James D. (Jim) Bray and wife, Sybil, cousins Robert Smith and James Anderson (Andy)Webb, sisters-in-law Dianne Mears and husband, Jim, Mary and husband, Tom Martin, and Sandy Mikesell and husband, David, brother-in-law Jim Hoyng and wife, Allyson, and several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, February 11, 2019 at First Baptist Church with her son, Rev. Chuck Estes, Rev. Jay Meadows, and Dr. Roger Gilbert officiating. The family will receive friends at the church in the Fireside Room on Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Her cremains will be buried in Oakdale Cemetery, Mt. Airy, NC. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Baptist Church, 714 N. Main Street, Mt. Airy, NC 27030, First Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 1528 Presbyterian Drive, Humboldt, TN 38343, Reynolda Presbyterian Church EPC, 2200 Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27106 or to another charity of the donor’s choosing.
