Mrs. Katy Elizabeth Kirkman Farmer, 94, of 714 Depot Street, Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2007, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Farmer was born June 1, 1913, in Surry County, to the late Gurney Oscar and Nannie Shelton Kirkman. She retired from Belk Department Store, was a member of the Mount Airy Church of God, and was a homemaker. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Vera Hall and Imogene and James Gravely, all of Mount Airy; two sons and daughters-in-law, Cecil Coy and Nancy Farmer of Kernersville and Hurley L. and Pauline "Polly" Farmer of Mount Airy; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; and ten great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Farmer was preceded in death by her husband, Coy Farmer; four sisters, Maggie Branch, Della Beck, Elva Poteat, and Clemmie Beck; and four brothers, Archie, Charlie, Jimmy, and Arthur Kirkman. A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, November 9, 2007, at Skyline Memory Gardens. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Deward Scott. The family will assemble at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy at 1:00 PM Friday to go to the cemetery for the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
