Mrs. Katy Lou Hayes Johnson, 59, widow of Carl Lowell Johnson, of Elkin, passed away on Wednesday November 22, 2006 at Hoots Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Surry County on March 8, 1947 to the late Claude and Evie Watson Hayes. Mrs. Johnson worked at Tultex Industries for more than thirty years and was Employed by Blythe Home Scents Coroporation of Elkin: she was a member of Little Richmond Baptist Church. Survivors include her loving sons and daughters-in-law Christopher and Debbie Johnson of Elkin, NC and Timothy and Lisa Johnson of Winston-Salem, NC; three sisters, Annie Shores of Mountain Park, NC, Myrtle Riddle of Dobson, Irene Haynes of Mt. Airy, NC; two brothers and sisters-in-law James and Pat Hayes of Elkin, NC and Robert and Flora Hayes of Thurmond, NC; three brothers-in-law and spouses Kirk and Susan Johnson of Elkin, NC, Vernon and Agnes Johnson of Colorado Springs, CO. and Owen and Cecilia Johnson of Surry, VA. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday at Little Richmond Baptist Church with Rev. Odell Sisk and Rev. Norman Lutz officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM on Saturday November 25 at Moody-Davis Funeral Home of Dobson where her body will remain until time to be carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service, In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care 401 Technology Lane Suite 200 Mount Airy, NC 27030 or to Little Richmond Baptist Church Cemetery Fund 9609 Highway 268 Elkin, NC 28621.The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Hoots Memorial Hospital, Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care and to Northern Home Care for the love and compassion given to Mrs. Johnson during her illness.
