Kenneth Edward LeCompte, affectionately known to many as “Ken,” was a man who lit up every room he walked into with his larger-than-life personality. Born on December 24, 1942, in Washington, DC, Ken blessed this world with 81 years before peacefully departing on October 25, 2024, in Mount Airy, North Carolina.
Ken lived a life devoted to service, honor, and laughter. He was a proud United States Marine Corps Vietnam Veteran, a steppingstone in a life dedicated to protecting and serving others. After his military service, Ken channeled this dedication into firefighting, a field where he left an indelible mark. He began his illustrious career at the Bladensburg Volunteer Fire Department, showcasing his bravery and commitment. Later, he joined the Montgomery County, MD Fire and Rescue, where he served valiantly until his well-earned retirement.
Ken is rejoining his mother and father, Lee and Arline LeCompte, who he loved and missed dearly. He is survived by his sister, Phyllis LeCompte; sons, Brian LeCompte, Kevin LeCompte and his wife Priscilla; grandchildren, Ansley, Connor, and Alexa LeCompte; and his fiancé, Linda Patterson and her children Tim, Stephen, and Brian.
Despite his serious profession, Ken was known for his calm demeanor in crises and wicked sense of humor, which never failed to lift spirits. Because of these qualities, and the kindness he gave everyone he met, Ken will be deeply missed by family, friends, and his community. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
