Mr. Kenneth Charles Parker, 70, of Pfafftown passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at Atrium Health-Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem with his loving family by his side. He was born in Surry County on July 20, 1952, to the late Henry Charles Parker and Elma Bennett Parker. He graduated from North Surry High School, and received a bachelor’s degree from Appalachian State University, and attended Chapel Hill School of Journalism. Mr. Parker was a newspaper sportswriter and teacher for Winston Salem Forsyth County Schools. Near the end of his teaching career, he worked remotely, traveling to sick and infirmed students and felt particularly rewarded being able to reach those who couldn’t make it to school. He especially loved his dog Georgia, and his dog Daisy before her. He enjoyed reading, watching UNC sports, being in nature, and spending time with his son. He is survived by his wife, Becky Anne Burke Parker; a son, David Charles Parker, his sister, Saundra Jones; a brother, Freddie Parker; niece and nephews, Payton Parker, Sarah Pascal, and Jamie Kearnes; numerous cousins. A funeral service will be held Sunday, March 5, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Eric Ayers officiating. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of the donors choice. Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
