Mr. Kenneth Boyd "K.B." White, 77, of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday, February 19, 2009, at his home, surrounded by his family. Mr. White was born September 19, 1931, in Surry County, to the late Connie Cicero and Betty Simmons White. He served our country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Mr. White retired as a surveyor from the North Carolina Department Of Transportation. He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt, fish, bowl, and play golf, striving to be "first" or "the best" in all he did. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, friend, and neighbor. He was always happy to cheer for the Duke Blue Devils and the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a member of the Men's Sunday School Class at Calvary Baptist and enjoyed singing in the choir. He was also always willing to help cook for Wednesday night church suppers. In addition to his loving wife of 54 years, Mary Jo Jones White, Mr. White is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Cathy and Mark Stevens of Mount Airy, LuAnn and Kenneth Foutz of Rural Hall, and Kendra White of Holly Springs; grandchildren and spouses, Kelly and Scottie Smith, Kenny and Kelly Hicks, Kristy and Wayne Thomas, Jessica and Robbie Adams, Christopher Stevens, Michael Stevens, Justin Foutz, and Clay Foutz; ten great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Audrey and Clellan Ramey of Mount Airy; a sister-in-law, Peggy White of Holden Beach; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. White was preceded in death by a brother, Bill White. The funeral service will be held Sunday, February 22, 2009, at 3:00 PM at Calvary Baptist Church, where the body will lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. The service will be conducted by Dr. Wayne Hager, the Rev. Chris Dotson, and the Rev. David Burgess. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Saturday, February 21, 2009, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Calvary Baptist Church. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be sent to Calvary Baptist Church, 314 South Franklin Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030, or to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
