Mr. Kennis Sidney Burkhart, Sr., 79, of 2337 McBride Road, Mount Airy, passed away Friday, July 9, 2010, at his home. Mr. Burkhart was born March 16, 1931, in Surry County, son of the late A.L. and Ada Jane Goins Burkhart. Kennis served our country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict era. He was a lifelong farmer and carpenter and a member of Flippin Memorial Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee and a member of the Building and Grounds Committee. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Fannie Lee Easter Burkhart of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Kennis Sidney Burkhart, Jr. and Kathy Burkhart of Mount Airy; two grandsons, Kennis Sidney "Kenny" Burkhart, III and Brian Wesley Burkhart, both of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Burkhart was preceded in death by two sisters, Nellie Burkhart and Beatrice Burkhart Moseley; and six brothers, Victor Burkhart, Barry Burkhart, Friel Burkhart, Claude Burkhart, Jack Burkhart, and Dennis Burkhart (twin brother). The funeral service will be held Monday, July 12, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Flippin Memorial Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tim Burton and the Rev. Billy Moore, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Flippin Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Fannie Lee Easter Burkhart, 2337 McBride Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
